Reading

I am a book-nerd. I have the book fever bad. I champion the nerdiness. More of who I am has developed by what I’ve read (unfortunately) than who I’ve discussed it with. I look forward to getting invited to Linda Stone’s salons to change that…
A book I read in college for my Economics of National Defense class (BS in Econ from USNA — explains the odd subject), The Pentagon Wars, was interesting. But what is most memorable about the book is the focus on Col John Boyd. He was an eccentric genius who conducted marathon strategy talks at the Pentagon. As an Appendix, the author, James Burton, listed hundreds of books that were the core requirements in order to carry on a half-intelligent discussion with Boyd. Boyd’s power was in the breadth and depth of his exposure to thinking and ideas and then his synthesis of that information to create new value and thinking.
That goal is mine.
Started using the “Now Reading” plugin. Need to do some more customization and make it more usable (Thanks Dom!) — including sorting, etc. I’ll create a full featured UI/dashboard in the coming weeks. For now, I’m trying to carve out some meaningful reading time. 2 of the 3 non-fiction books I’m reading right now are too meaty to read lightly.
I also have many many notes on The Long Tail I want to parse through and write about… the same for Blink — those notes and thoughts are quite stale at this point, but lead to Gary Klein… someone I really want to spend time talking about.
